So Jess Sew - Rebecca Page Madison Blouse

I'm super excited to show you my first woven shirt. I usually sew with knit fabric, so this is a big deal for me! The pattern is from Rebecca Page Patterns, the Madison Blouse. Rebecca Page really shines with this pattern. There are gathers on below the front two yokes and the back yoke. The shirt has plackets down the front and 5 buttons. The collar can either be a classic style or have this fun tie that mine has (in two different width options). The sleeves can be short or long and  can be gathered at the armscye as seen here or made with pleats. The long sleeved options is a split sleeve with the cuff. The pattern also has the option of making a dress. So many different possibilities with this pattern. The instructions are very detailed with lots of pictures, so I had no issues figuring out how to construct the pieces. Truly a classic, well done pattern.

I enjoyed the ease of hemming woven fabric. I was worried about how to finish the raw edges, but the PDF pattern includes instructions for both serging the edges or using other techniques like a felled flat seam or using binding that are simple to do on a sewing machine. I do think this is a confident beginner or intermediate pattern, but since the instructions are so good, you could really be at any level and figure it out. I used Georgette Crepe fabric from Knitpop.

This blouse would be a perfect fit for the office, but since I don't work in an office, I chose to style it with shorts and some cute wedges.

Here's the back, hopefully you can see the gathers below the pointed yoke.

The neck ties can be knotted at the collar, left loose, or even tied into a bow. I think it would be really cute to make a shirt with ties in a coordinating color and then where the blouse under a suit jacket with dress pants or a a pencil skirt. It would look like a cute tie or slim scarf underneath.
