So Jess Sew - The George and Ginger Rival Dress

 I've had the George and Ginger Rival Dress since last year and I kept meaning to make it, but was busy with other patterns and of course my 3 young boys. I finally got around to it this past week! And, IS IT SPRING YET?? I'm so ready to be done with winter. I can't wait for warm weather and gardening season to start. So I made this dress in anticipation of warmer days filled with flowers and sunshine.

The Rival can be made with a neckband, cowl, or hood. It has side panels and HUGE pockets (which fit my Note 8 with room to spare). The side panels make the dress really pop, plus the added feature of making the wearer look slimmer. The sleeves options are sleeveless (banded), short, 3/4, and long. So, it can be made with the cowl or hood and long sleeves to be worn with tall boots or leggings when it's cold. Or, like I made it, with a neckband and shorter sleeves for a spring dress. Of course the hood could be used for a sportier look in warmer weather. 

The neat thing about having so many pieces, is that you can really customize the look and have fun with fabric combinations. 


These are my fabric choices. French Terry floral for the main and a dark mustard DBP (Double Brushed Polyester) for the accents.

I printed the the PDF pattern pages, assembled and cut them out (want to know more about PDF Patterns? See my blog post about that HERE).


Then cut out my pretty fabric!



I wasn't sure which fabric I wanted the hem band to be, so I laid out all the pieces to see what it would like all sewn up (did you spot the drumstick?). I asked a few friends for opinions and decided on a floral hem band.



I sewed it all up using the lovely PDF instructions and voila!
